CEU needs us now, after Ondoy

We have celebrated our existence as a University more than a century already, but Ondoy would like to challenge this. This coming Saturday at 630 am, CEU is calling all concerned Escolarians and friends to spread our mantra of Science and virtue by helping our countrymen who are badly affected by the calamity.

Aside from this very noble act, the ground floor of CEU Mendiola is really affected since some, if not most, of its offices had been flooded. I am particularly concerned of Student Affairs Office because it was not just an ordinary office, it was a home for students who dreamed to be significant people in the future and especially to their chosen fields. I would like to appeal to all USC alumni and friends for us to help restoring our "foundation of dreams", where we all have started under the guidance of our dear adviser, Dr. Claire Z. Manalo. SAO is now under Dr. Carlito Olaer, a religion teacher and was also my good technical adviser in the ABSP Infoline (the official newsletter of the School of Accountancy and Management, as it is called today - SAM). Let's unite for a cause! We can make all things possible and even better for CEU!

As Ondoy strikes in Makati! (and its aftermath)

Often we organize safety drills during earthquake or fire but how about this simple and yet very rampant typhoon cases? It's more than just an eye wakening experience wherein we are reminded that we have to take serious precautions during calamities such as typhoons causing our areas traffic and floods.

September 26 was truly unforgettable! I was sharing my lectures with my students when the announcement for a class suspension was made. In order to maintain calmness as the weather seemed to be in fury, some of the faculty members gathered their students for an intended short socialization. While having some snacks and at the same time having some fun, we finally realized the extent of what the typhoon Ondoy has brought in Metro Manila. De la Rosa St. was seemed like a river and similar cases were also reported to us by our handy gizmos in other parts of the Metro. Aware of the danger, the faculty members and non teaching personnel, specifically of CEU Makati- both Gil Puyat and Legaspi, organized an impromptu committee in order to assist our students. Without a wink of an eye, everybody acted with concern and initiatives. Some faculty and non teaching personnel extended their generosity and assistance with the preparation of refreshments as provided by reliable fastfoods like McDonalds and Jollibee. Some have offered time and effort to comfort rattled and worried students wondering where and when will they have to leave the school or will they even be fetched by their relatives or friends. Also there are some who thought of students who got stranded outside and on the streets or perhaps in malls, and thus coordinated to some authorities for assistance. I was thankful to the following people: SPO1 Bueno and team from the Makati Police Station, who offered their service to assist students who were stranded in some areas of Makati, as they have fetched students from public places and have brought them back to CEU Makati custody. Another is Mr. Remus Ritwerma, the Security Head of Ayala Malls in Makati, for sheltering 7 nursing students overnight and providing them with their necessities such as food. Nice to mention were some students who also made their herculean efforts in assisting this very noble mission along with the elders. Truly the event provided us an avenue that a university such as CEU, is truly a home to the students!

Kudos to the management for providing us the support and sharing their concerns to all employees and students. Most of all, thank you to all people who have been involved in this instant "caring" activity. Rest assured that with these good team, students could always believe to the mantra of Cientia y Virtud (Science and Virtue), that is by Centro Escolar University!

It's for a real change

It all started from my parents whom I found inspiration to do business. My dad was from an international shipping line who engages to various businesses and my mom who had her own entrepreneurial stints. I was really young then when both of them have enjoyed their primes in their own respective fields. I guess I should have exerted my curiosity earlier in business but of course no regrets! I am smarter now compared before.

I am enjoying whatever I have now but after attending the convention and upon reading the book of GONEGOSYO, I have finally understood that this should be the right timing for me to venture to entrepreneurship. Come to think of it, I am a business major student and I am even pursuing my MBA, so why not be devoted to it.

We always like change but most often we term it as shifting in careers. It's more than just financial remuneration but it's also for a noble cause that we have to establish industriousness together with business logic. From the past few days, it seemed that my fate is clearing my path and just by coincidence, I am directed to something that I never have expected. Thanks to the projects and to the opportunities of teaching, I can truly say that all I have to do is just to reach out and you'll soon ask yourself why shouldn't I have done it before? What keeps me holding back when all people around me affirms to my plans as if they were magnum opus? It's about time for a real change, it's becoming more competitive and logical.

Crazy September and keeping my fingers crossed

Wush, I just really don't know the hell what just happened to me to these past few days but I have no better idea but to face the music and do better. (I'm crossing my fingers now). Few more days and I'll be back to to my grad school in DLSU and as early as now I already have a teaching load for next term in CEU Makati. I'm just hoping that all will coincide properly to my new schedule in IHG. Anyway, I have known a lot of people and really have a good opening with lots of parties, gimmicks (professional), and many more. Sometimes I got nostalgic of my college days because I really had a blast back then, anyway, I'm doing it still in a different level now.

I am decided to take at least one subject, hopefully Business Economics and I was told that it would be a challenging course since it would involve analysis and computations as well. I miss my friends in grad school and also the thrill of coming to class and becoming a student again. I may not be the smartest in the class but I always fond of doing recitations and group work because it makes both my IQ & EQ working in unison.

I thank my dean in CEU since she is providing me both challenging and exciting subjects. I know my students would be thrilled to make use of their adrenalin during my class. Most of all, spending Christmas in school is really captivating environment. I promised my students that I will make it more Christmassy in Makati.

At work, I'm somehow nervous and also thrilled. I just go a new team and I really would like to progress in sales. Ohh, I have had numerous try-outs and I hope I could keep my feet more stable in it. Having two jobs is really fascinating because it makes me more productive but I'm seeing the effect of getting tired but anyway, life is a continual learning process indeed!

Challenges is really my cup of tea and I pray that all things would flow smoothly. One thing is missing... let's wait and see.

Seasons' Scents by Jepoy

The smell is definitely one of the useful human senses that would simply arouse our interest on something or even to someone. The animal kingdom often make use of it to define their kingdom or territory.

In most of human regimens, we also would like to associate our hygiene on something that would smell nice. Therefore, scents from perfumes and colognes are inevitably sporadic in the market.

For this reason, as a fanatic, I am extending this special and limited collections of imported scents. These are priced economically and definitely would appease our "scentful-desires".

How was August?

It was really anticipated for my birthday for 08-08-09 as I turned 27 but it turned out to be one month of pure exhilarating set of activities.

It was the first implementation of my new schedule that it got so close to my part time schedule. I only have 15 minutes interval every TTHS and well I really felt so challenged 'coz it was really a run from RCBC to CEU Legaspi and a quick drop of breakfast at 711 or Starbucks.

Just last week, August 25-29, 2009 I had the pioneering activity (we made another history in CEU: the first expo) CENTREXPO. It was a result of sheer interest in Marketing and a practical execution of Product Management and Retail Management (courses I am handling as a part time teacher). It was intense and trully breathtaking from the moment we opened our booths to the public and got the chance to get their purchasing feedback. I have trully showed to my junior marketing management students the "Mendiola way". We start their class every 7:00 am and we altogether close the Legaspi campus at 8:00 p.m. I was amazed on how they executed their plans, and suddenly I had flashbacks of my college days with the USC and ABSP (which is SAM today). I really miss my pals and was thankful that I had nearby colleagues working in the area and they both managed to drop by (Miss Grace Leabres from SGV and Dr. Nicolas Lagman from Medical City Plaza). The activity was also partnered with PLDT and thanks to my fellow USC officer, Mr. Christian Villar. Supposedly I should have picked the best booth last August 29 (Saturday) as we have concluded the academic activity but during those five days that I have observed my students, each of them has faced tremendous challenges and even executed remarkable outputs that I could trully say was indeed genius! So at the end I have proclaimed all of them best booths of their own right!

I know it's only midterms and we still have another grading period to ascertain our students progress but I think we're all having some fun and fruitful first semester. Also, by next semester my class was also invited to participate in Mendiola and I was even asked if they could adapt my theme which is CENTREXPO! Wow, ganito kai sa Makati!!!

As we unfold the September, as I get close to the reality check with my real job as sales and genres in IHG, I am starting with a new team as my previous team was dissolved due to a more favourable reason which is promotion. My manager Mrs. Ana will now become part of a different department and most of us have to also start anew. I will now become part of Inargizers which intrigues me because it seemed that they would definitely keep me going. It's a new adjustment and I am just trying to become more optimistic. I was told that the team somehow resembles my defunct team - Ana Republic, so I was advised that it will not be much of a problem. Anyway, change is indeed one permanent thing right? Just before we end the month, we went to our team building/wrecking ( I call it the final stand as adapted from Xmen) at the Kuhala Resort at Cardona, Cavite. It was nice and economical as well. It was also accessible since it was an hour of commuting from Makati to that venue (perhaps it was weekend and that's why there was no traffic). Too bad that we haven't had enough time to get to know more each other but anyway we're still in one company so Good luck everyone.

Now how will my September be? I have my enrollment in DLSU-Graduate school and CEU offered me to still teach for 2 major subjects in Marketing and one is my favorite: Advertising!!! Most of all, it's the start of BER month, yippeee. I'm such a Christmas person. So I really have to start shopping for gifts now.

Centrexpo: the 1st CEU Expo in Makati

The Junior Marketing Management Students of CEU - Legaspi, Makati will hold its pioneering exposition on August 25-29, 2009 at the Student Activity Center of LV Building from 2:00-5:00 p.m. This will be the most exciting way of exhibiting their creative and innovative business approach in both of their Retail (MM3) and Product (MM4) Management.
